Thanks, Luna!

Waiting for a treat

To help manage Luna’s dry eye issues, she gets drops in her eyes three times a day.  The little girl is a trooper and she allows us to put the drops in her eyes without putting up too much of a fuss.  To reward her for being such a good girl, we give her a small treat after she has received her drops.

The boys caught on to this and started begging to get eye drops so that they could get a treat.  So to be fair, after Luna gets her drops, everyone gets a treat.

One of Luna’s eye medications needs to be refrigerated and it has gotten to the point that as soon as Benjamin and Henry hear me get the drops out of the fridge they come running for a treat.  Furthermore, they egg Luna on and tell her to go get her drops so they can get a treat!

Poor, Luna.  She sure did get the raw end of the deal.

Thanks!

Too Hot To Walk

Benjamin, Henry and Luna on their walk

We are well into summer and it is hot and humid here in Florida.  Nothing that isn’t typical of this time of year, but it is still super hot.  Because of the heat, we have had to adjust our walks.  Our normal schedule is to go for a short walk at lunch time, a short walk before dinner and a long walk after dinner.  This has been a good schedule for the boys and it seems to work well with Luna.  The three walks get the gang their necessary exercise which makes for happy and well behaved pugs.  However, since it has been so hot lately, we don’t dare venture out for our midday or before dinner walk.  Instead we take a long walk in the morning around 6:30 AM and another long walk in the evening around 9 PM.  Everyone loves the 9 PM walk, but the morning walk is another story.  At that time in the morning, everyone is snuggled under the covers and none of them have any interest in going for a walk.  However, by the time we hit the end of the driveway, they are their happy little selves and ready to go on their trot around the neighborhood.

Standing Guard

Benjamin waiting for his turkey to be cooked

Each week when I cook the turkey for the gang’s food, Benjamin parks himself on the mat by the stove.  He stays there the entire time I am cooking and while he relaxes a bit he is always alert and ready to pounce on any morsel I may drop.

While I love Benjamin and enjoy doing things with him, I wish he didn’t try to help as I cooked turkey.  Cooking about 11 packages a ground turkey is a tedious process and I could sure use the extra foot room while I am working.  But that is where the little man likes to lay, so I just work around him.

Luna and Henry aren’t as interested in the cooking process.  They prefer to lounge in the living room while I cook.

Pull up a Chair

Benjamin at the table

Benny loves to eat and whenever anyone is in the kitchen Benjamin always keeps a watchful eye on them.  So it is no surprise that whenever we sit down to eat at the kitchen table, Benjamin always helps himself to a seat.

This usually isn’t a problem and unless we have company over there is always two extra chairs at the table.  So we allow Benjamin to have a seat at the table.  Unless Cheerios are on the table, he usually has very good manners and does not try to snag anything off the table.  He just patiently sits on the chair watching us eat.  He really likes to be able to see what is going on and he just doesn’t have a good enough view from the floor.

What I find amusing about Benny sitting at the table with us while we eat is the way he sits on the chairs.  He always has one leg hanging out the middle of the chair.  Sometimes he tires while we are eating and starts to nod off.  I am waiting for him to slip right through the back of the chair one day.

The Brains of the Bunch

Henry with a bone

Benjamin is the carb-cruncher and Luna is the feisty one, but do you know that Henry is really too smart for his own good?  Henry knows when we are in a rush and need him to go poopy quickly.  He’ll use this opportunity to hold out for a bribe of an apple softy treat.  As soon as we present the treat, he’ll present what we’ve been waiting for.  What a smarty pants.

We like it better, though, when he out smarts his siblings.  For example, when Benjamin and/or Luna are chewing a bone that Henry wants, Henry will create a false diversion to cause Benjamin and/or Luna to go see what the problem is, thus leaving their bones and giving Henry the choice of either chewy.  Usually Henry will bark at a fictitious person walking down the street to get the other two to come look out the front door and then Henry will scamper to the bones and snag one.

Or Henry will pretend to have found something very special in the toy box to get the other ones interested and when they fall for that trick, Henry has taken the real item that he wanted and the other one is left with what equates to an infomercial bust.  They had been sold, but then it wasn’t that cool after all.  That Henry, he is a slick one.

Benjamin is on to his games, though.  Stay tuned about how Benjamin has learned a little retaliation tactic.

Luna’s Eye Follow-Up

Luna

Yay!  We are happy to report it is all good news.

When tested, Luna’s tear production was a 15 out of 20 in each eye.  The vet said Luna was suffering some irritation due to seasonal allergies and to only slightly adjust her current meds!

We are ecstatic that it such terrific news.  Her tear production in her right eye is up to a 15 from an 8 and in the left eye it stayed about the same.  That is about what we are to expect from here on out and we do not need to go back for a checkup until November unless her condition worsens.

Go Luna!  Keep producing those tears!
